Frank Fredriksen

A public toilet along the road or in a natural recreation area is nothing you can count on – even if it ought to be that way. And it takes more than just emptying the reservoir to create a safe, secure, hygienic experience.

Frank - in charge of service and aftermarket sales for public toilets

Meet Frank Fredriksen – the man in charge of service and aftermarket sales at Danfo AS in Norway. Frank has worked at Danfo for five years, and is also in charge of modular projects, renovation projects and toilet buildings.

How did you end up in the public toilet business, Frank?

More or less by chance. I didn’t really know what Danfo was when I first applied for a job, then I thought, “Public toilets? How hard can it be?” Later I realized that it’s about more than just toilets, it’s about people. Public toilets are incredibly important in our public spaces and always need to be accessible.

Speaking of accessibility, where do we need public toilets?

Public toilets are actually needed everywhere. Rest areas are under heavy pressure in Norway. Our truck drivers and car tourists need access to clean, reliable toilets. Many people come to Norway to experience our natural surroundings, and wherever you are – at a bathing beach, on a hiking trail or in the city – there should be access to toilets.

Your job includes servicing public toilets. Is there anything you wish more people understood about your work?

Maybe that my job isn’t about emptying toilets, it’s about making sure that when visitors use them, they function properly. Our toilets include many technical solutions, and I make sure our products work and provide what they promise.

If Danfo were a person, who would you describe that person?

A stable, reliable person you can count on. Somebody you can turn to if you’re anxious, want to share something, or are looking for support. The company is tolerant and accepting, and we share our lives with each other – both work life and private life.

So it’s a little like a family?

No, not really. We’re a little more close-knit than that, haha!

How does the future look for you and Danfo?

It looks bright! Since starting working here, I have grown a lot. I am naturally curious and like learning new skills, technologies and products. As for Danfo, we keep producing new things, and as new technology and new solutions keep coming, we can offer better and better products. We’re gaining ground, which is hardly surprising. After all, we are specialists in public toilets.
