Public toilets play an important role in people’s ability to congregate and spend time in public places – regardless of their gender, age or level of physical mobility. Using a public toilet should be easy and feel safe. Many people even make their plans for socialising based on where toilets can be found. With an appropriately fitted interior and exterior, a public toilet can be both a safe meeting place and a local landmark.
It’s the exterior of a building that makes the first impression on people and contributes to the overall feeling of its surrounding environment. There is thus always a thought process about material choices when we design public toilet buildings. It is not just the interior of a public toilet that has to be easy to maintain – we take responsibility for keeping the whole building clean, safe and in good repair.
Everybody should feel safe, secure and comfortable when using a public toilet and that is one of Danfo’s main aims in achieving. Danfo worked with the City of Helsingborg, Sweden to develop the Family Toilet. This facility designed incorporated a positive, safe, secure and comfortable user experience for both children and adults.
Our Family Toilet is intended to provide children with a safer, more secure experience when visiting the toilet – and children’s opinions are therefore especially important to us. That’s why, working in cooperation with the City of Helsingborg, we have developed a toilet concept based on interviews with children. Last week, we invited a class from the Dibber Valpebo mobile preschool in Örebro to hear what they had to say about the new concept.
The way adults experience a public toilet is very different from the way a child experiences it. In cooperation with the City of Helsingborg, we have developed the Family Toilet – a public toilet adapted for children and their needs.
H22 - "The making of a smarter city" is Helsingborg's major welfare initiative, where the city of Helsingborg develops the solutions of tomorrow, contributing to an increased quality of life in a smarter, sustainable city. Danfo is participating in the initiative and have, together with the City of Helsingborg, developed two family restrooms that will be shown for the first time in connection to the fair. We will also host a conference to highlight the opportunities for collaboration on product development and urban planning to create inclusive and safe public environments.
