Thorney Bay Solar Toilet Project - A Sustainable Public Toilet Solution
Thorney Bay, Canvey Island
Castle Point Borough Council selected Danfo UK Ltd to manufacture and install an eco-friendly solar toilet at Thorney Bay, Canvey Island. The project aimed to provide a sustainable and innovative off-grid public toilet solution at a location 100 meters from the beach.
Meeting the Challenges of an Off-grid Location
The proposed site presented challenges due to its lack of access to mains electricity and water supplies. Danfo conducted a site survey and recommended their Greenline toilet as the best option, thanks to its cutting-edge and environmentally friendly features.
The Greenline Toilet - Powered by Solar Energy
The Greenline toilet is the most environmentally friendly building in Danfo's range. It is powered entirely by solar energy and includes a bespoke underground water storage tank situated beneath the building. This system allows water to be pumped into the toilet, while foul waste can be connected to a cesspit or suitable water treatment system. The building can be equipped with timed or PIR lighting and offers timed automatic opening and closing, eliminating the need for manual closing by staff.
Custom Installation for Thorney Bay
For this specific project, the council agreed to install specialist foundations to accommodate the water tank and foul cesspit. The public toilet was prefabricated in Danfo's factory and delivered to the site. The building was then craned into position, and the final connections and foundation works were completed, ready for public use.
The Greenline Toilet - The Ultimate Self-sufficient Public Toilet
The Danfo Greenline Toilet is the best self-sufficient toilet on the market today. Its innovative features and eco-friendly design make it an excellent choice for off-grid locations like Thorney Bay, Canvey Island.
